Albert Davies

Served with Essex County Constabulary from Dec 21, 1937 and died on Aug 4, 1944.

Police Constable Albert Davies was the son of Albert and Elizabeth Jane Davies and was born on 28th August 1915 in Neath, Glamorgan. He served in the Welsh Guards from 25th January 1934 to 4th December 1937 and then joined Essex County Constabulary on 21st December 1937. Having completed his Headquarters' training he was posted to Braintree from 19th February 1938 and then to Witham from 11th May 1939.

On 3rd November 1939 he was posted to Chelmsford and married Florence Millicent Davies, later of Talywain, Monmouthshire, on 25th November 1939. Six days later he was recalled to the army. Albert was killed in action on Friday, 4th August 1944., whilst serving as Lance Serjeant 2733791 with 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards. He was aged 28. He was buried in grave XX.C.7. at the Bayeux War Cemetery in Calvados, France.
